Wall Mandalas

Lasma painting a large outdoor mandala freehand

Lasma starts from the centre and lets it grow. No sketch, no projector, no stencil — just a brush, the geometry in her head, and a feeling for the space and the person who lives there.

“In my mind, it has to match the place and the person. Once that clicks — that’s the direction — then it flows.”

She sees the mandala as a circle of life — birth, growth, return. Each one is a conversation. The result is always a surprise.

Paintings

Alongside her wall work, Lasma makes original paintings on canvas — surrealist, expressive, pulled from the same source as everything she makes.

“There is no one specific style or way. It’s all together — artistic expression. Whatever comes out of me.”

Asked where it all comes from, she doesn’t hesitate: “God. The universe. Heart.”

Yes, she also makes music. Together with four Danish musicians, under the name Lasma and the Lemons, they write and perform their own songs.

“Another plan of the universe.”

About Lasma

Drawing has always been part of Lasma’s life from a small age. In the mornings she would wake up and the first thing to do was draw — people, nature, whatever came to mind.

It went from there to regional art competitions, then national ones, then to an art school her mum and grandmother had both attended before her. Three generations. “It felt like a logical thing to do,” she says.

How she ended up in Copenhagen? “That was a plan of the universe.” Her gut said it made sense.

She painted her first wall mandala in 2017 — on her mum’s house, outside. It was a way to ground her mind, so she painted it away. Her mum is artistic herself, so of course she said go for it. Lasma started from the centre and let it grow, following the gut feeling. That’s still how she works today: no sketch, no projection, no stencil.

“It’s a feeling of being present. And trusting the flow.”

She also paints on canvas and makes music with four Danish musicians under the name Lasma and the Lemons — another plan of the universe, started at a café in Copenhagen.

“It’s all the same. It comes from one source.”
